when no one sees that is the test. Take the audience away and see what is left. For many of us, perhaps not a lot. Have we found too much significance in the telling? Are we babies in being? Can we sit quietly with a text without thinking, “Have I got plans for you. You and I are going to do great things together”? The implication here is that the preacher needs to have an identity before God and people that is deeper than the preaching role.
